  • Running themed family events e.g Halloween tours and Christmas storytelling
  • Working with training providers to give those preparing for the world of work an experience of the heritage sector and activities to develop creativity, customer care and communication skills

Example project

Stanley Mills

Character led workshops for schools and learning groups on site at Stanley Mills in Perthshire for Historic Environment Scotland.

Child Workers workshop

The children were welcomed to the site by Janet Scott, a mill worker from 1838 and put into role and costume as child workers of the period. The children spent half a day on site, including taking lunch ‘in period’, learning how children in the past would spend their day working in the mill.

Mill inspectors workshop

Mill Inspectors workshop for S1/2 pupils where the children were invited to the year 1835 to investigate life at the Mill in role as Inspectors for Parliament and then to debate the improvements that should or should not be made.

National Trust for Scotland (NTS) – Newhailes House and The Georgian House

Incorporating heritage learning and drama education, working in partnership with NTS and a local High School to create a performance with S5 and 6 Advanced Higher Drama students at these NTS sites.
Supported pupils with research and learning and mentored their writing, directing and production. The young people were then enabled to stage a full performance on site in front of a live audience as part of their SQA assessment.
