Illuminate UK - Education - Site Specific Character Led Workshops.

For 2 days each month during the school year you will find Janet Scott, a mill worker from 1838, welcoming children for their first day of work at Historic Scotland's Stanley Mill in Perthshire.

During their workshop the children discover what daily life was really like for working children during the Victorian period by taking on the role of a child who worked in the mill and becoming a 'scavenger', 'doffer' or 'piecer'.

Janet is played by one of the Illuminate team and the workshops were researched, devised and developed by Illuminate for Historic Scotland.

There are 3 workshops available - for early years, P4-7 and for S1/2 groups.

For more information on the Stanley Mills & Illuminate UK development process see our case studies section.
